Val vs. Food: Big Slugger Nachos

Last night I met up with Brian and Cornie and ChrisS and others at a little place called Wrigley Field. My mission for the night, if I was going to subject myself to a Cubs game (or to bleachers full of Cubs fans…I only got beer spilled all over my hair once though…), was to get the Big Slugger Nachos: 2 pounds of tortilla chips, chili con carne, cheese, tomatoes, onions, jalapenos, black olives, scallions, cilantro, and sour cream served up in a Cubs helmet.

Luckily I managed to grab it from concessions at about 5:59, because before 6pm all food was discounted. So I got the $15 nachos for around $11…which is somewhat comparable to what I’d spend for hot dogs and regular nachos in a game anyways.

My original intention was never to actually eat the entire thing myself, but after much egging from friends (and the fact that Brian’s brother ate one himself before I got there, licked the hat clean and went back for more food) I decided to at least see how far I could get on my own.

Eating is Not a Spectator Sport.

In the end I think I did fairly decently. I maybe ate about two thirds of the nachos. I stopped eating before the game even started and had said I might go back to it in an inning or two but that never happened and I was quite stuffed. But I am satisfied (even if my stomach right now is not).

Oh…and there was some baseball game going on too…

p.s. apparently it is against Wrigley rules to yell insults about players’ family members. Who knew?

Not bad, but you definitely need some ground beef on those nachos!
